The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), EU 2016/679, comes into force 25 May 2018.
The GDPR has been designed to harmonise the data privacy laws across Europe. The aim is to protect all EU citizens from privacy and data breaches in a world that is becoming more and more data-driven and data-orientated, a world that is greatly different from 1995 when the current Data Protection Directive was established.
The key principles of the current data protection laws remain within the GDPR but with additional regulatory policies that will empower EU citizens to take more control of their own data privacy and also to change the way organisations approach data privacy.
