The law requires that if your vehicle and load movements exceed standard dimensions, then you need to pre-notify the police, highway and bridge authorities.
The length of notice you need to give and whether an attendant is required depends on the vehicle dimensions and weight.
The Electronic Service Delivery for Abnormal Loads (ESDAL) is a website developed by the Highways Agency to help plan your route.
Once you’ve sketched your route, the service gives you advice on abnormal load movements as well as identifying which authorities need to be notified. Take a look at the ESDAL website.
