Mechanics and EU drivers’ hours
In June 2008, the Department for Transport (DfT) advised FTA that it has adopted a new interpretation removing drivers who never carry goods or passengers in the course of their employment from the scope of EU drivers' hours Regulation 561/2006.
This offered benefits to members who employ mechanics/fitters if they never carry goods when driving a vehicle to annual test, but this initial advice also left some questions unanswered.
FTA has now received further clarification from DfT in relation to test loads and agency drivers. A revised briefing note detailing DfT’s view can be downloaded here.
