Food hygiene laws affect all food businesses, including caterers, primary producers (such as farmers), manufacturers, distributors and retailers. The general hygiene requirements for all food business operators are laid down in European Regulation 852/2004 implemented in the UK by the 2006 Food Hygiene Regulations.
