Defra Vehicle Inspections
FTA’s VIS offers Defra Vehicle Inspections to give you confidence in your compliance within the EC regulation 1/2005, Article 18 - the transport Certificate of Approval for Road Vehicles inspections. We are appointed by the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs as a competent body – this only being achieved by UKAS accreditation.
Did you know that the European Council (EC) requires that a road vehicle, trailer body and/or container inspection must be carried out to ensure the protection of animals when they are being transported on long journeys (eight hours or more)?
What does the Defra Vehicle Inspection include?
- It is an inspection on the vehicle body and equipment to meet the regulatory requirements as required within the European standard General provision on the protection of animals during transport
- FTA inspects the vehicle, trailer and/or container in accordance with the regulations and if they meet the EC specific standard you will receive a 'certificate of approval'
- Your certificate must be carried with you and produced upon request in any EU member state
Our vehicle and equipment inspections are carried out on everything from vans to heavy goods vehicles (HGVS). All our inspections are quality assured to systems and procedures assessed by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) and are available upon request nationwide.
